Cara kerja Part 1: Bagian pembuka berlangsung sekitar empat hingga lima menit. Penguji akan menanyakan nama Anda, lalu mengajukan pertanyaan singkat tentang topik-topik yang sudah akrab — pekerjaan, kota asal, dan waktu luang. Bagian ini dirancang untuk membuat Anda nyaman sekaligus mengukur kemampuan bahasa Inggris sehari-hari Anda.

Masalah jawaban satu kata
Kesalahan terbesar yang merusak skor di Part 1 adalah menjawab terlalu singkat. "Yes, I do" memang secara teknis benar, tetapi tidak memberikan apa pun bagi penguji untuk dinilai. Rumusnya sederhana: jawaban + alasan + contoh.
- ❌ "Yes, I like music."
- ✅ "Yes, especially older rock. I usually put it on while I'm cooking — it makes the whole thing feel less like a chore."
Jawaban kedua tidak tiga kali lebih panjang, tetapi mengandung alasan dan gambaran situasi. Itulah yang ingin didengar oleh penguji.
