चार हिस्सों वाला आसान ढाँचा

अच्छा परिचय छोटा होता है और उन सवालों का जवाब देता है जो सामने वाला वैसे भी पूछता। ज़्यादातर मौकों पर चार हिस्से काफ़ी हैं:

1. अभिवादन और नाम। अनौपचारिक माहौल में सिर्फ़ पहला नाम, औपचारिक में पूरा नाम।
   Hi, I'm Priya. Nice to meet you.
2. आप कहाँ से हैं या कहाँ रहते हैं। एक वाक्य काफ़ी है; कोई दिलचस्प बात हो तभी जोड़ें।
   I'm from Jaipur, but I live in Pune now.
3. आप क्या करते हैं। नौकरी या पढ़ाई — वही हिस्सा जो लोगों को याद रहता है।
   I work in marketing. / I'm studying economics.
4. कोई निजी बात या वहाँ होने की वजह। इससे सामने वाले को पूछने के लिए कुछ मिलता है।
   In my free time I play football — and I'm here because I want to improve my English.

बातचीत में आखिर में सवाल लौटा दीजिए — How about you? — ताकि यह भाषण नहीं, बातचीत बने।

be और present simple वाले छोटे, अलग-अलग वाक्य। सही और साफ़ — एक बिल्कुल अच्छी शुरुआत।

Hi, I'm Priya. I'm from Jaipur, but I live in Pune now because of my studies. I'm studying economics, and I really enjoy it, although it's quite hard. In my free time I play football with friends and listen to a lot of podcasts.

वाक्य but, because, although से जुड़े हैं; इनमें वजह और राय (I really enjoy it) है।

C1

Hi, I'm Priya. I grew up in Jaipur, moved to Pune for university and somehow never left. I'm in the last year of an economics degree — I'm particularly interested in how cities deal with housing — and outside of that I'm the kind of person who'll happily spend a Sunday playing football and the evening catching up on podcasts.

स्वाभाविक मुहावरे (somehow never left, the kind of person who…), वाक्य के बीच में जोड़ी गई बात और हल्का, निजी लहजा।

सबसे आम गलतियाँ

• I am 25 years. ✗ → I'm 25. / I'm 25 years old.
  अंग्रेज़ी में उम्र be के साथ बताई जाती है: सिर्फ़ संख्या या years old के साथ — कभी सिर्फ़ years नहीं।
• I am engineer. ✗ → I'm an engineer.
  पेशे से पहले a या an चाहिए: a teacher, an engineer, a nurse।
• I am working in a bank since 2020. ✗ → I've been working at a bank since 2020.
  जो बात अतीत में शुरू होकर अब तक चल रही है, उसके लिए since या for के साथ present perfect चाहिए।
• My hobbies are reading books, listening music and travelling. ✗ → In my free time I read, listen to music and travel.
  listen के बाद to आता है। और शौक संज्ञाओं की सूची से ज़्यादा क्रियाओं में स्वाभाविक लगते हैं।
• I'm graduated from university. ✗ → I graduated from university.
  graduate एक सामान्य क्रिया है: I graduated, न कि I am graduated।
• I am a person who is very hardworking and honest. ✗ → I'm hardworking — last year I … (a real example).
  अपने स्वभाव के बारे में विशेषण बिना सबूत के खोखले लगते हैं। उसकी जगह एक छोटा, असली उदाहरण दीजिए।

हिंदी से अनुवाद करने पर होने वाली गलतियाँ

भारत में अंग्रेज़ी परिचय की कई गलतियाँ इतनी आम हैं कि लोग उन्हें सही मान लेते हैं। ज़्यादातर हिंदी से सीधे अनुवाद से आती हैं:

• Myself Priya ✗. “मैं प्रिया” का अनुवाद लगता है, लेकिन अंग्रेज़ी में यह गलत है। कहिए I'm Priya या My name is Priya।
• I am having 3 years of experience ✗. have यहाँ स्थिति बताता है, इसलिए continuous नहीं: I have three years of experience या I've been working as a developer for three years।
• I did my graduation from… भारत में बहुत आम है, पर बाहर अजीब लगता है। कहिए I graduated from Pune University या I have a degree in commerce।
• My good name is… ✗. “आपका शुभ नाम” का अनुवाद। अंग्रेज़ी में सिर्फ़ My name is…।
• पिता का नाम और पूरा पारिवारिक विवरण। My father is a businessman and my mother is a homemaker स्कूल वाले परिचय में चलता है, लेकिन इंटरव्यू या मीटिंग में इसकी ज़रूरत नहीं।
• I am from Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. गलत नहीं, पर विदेशियों से बात करते हुए I'm from Jaipur, in the north-west of India ज़्यादा साफ़ है।

तैयारी और प्रैक्टिस कैसे करें

1. 60 शब्दों का एक रूप लिखिए, नीचे दिए टेम्पलेट से। वाक्य छोटे रखिए।
2. इसे पाँच बार ज़ोर से बोलिए, फिर कागज़ हटा दीजिए। याद पॉइंट रखने हैं, शब्द-दर-शब्द नहीं — रटा हुआ परिचय पढ़ने जैसा लगता है।
3. तीन लंबाई तैयार कीजिए: 20 सेकंड (किसी से मिलते समय), 1 मिनट (इंटरव्यू, क्लास), 2 मिनट (अगर कोई और जानना चाहे)।
4. आगे के सवालों के लिए तैयार रहिए। आप जो भी बताएँगे, उस पर सवाल आ सकता है: Why did you move? What do you like about your job?
5. खुद को रिकॉर्ड कीजिए और एक बार सुनिए। रफ़्तार, रुकावटें और कहीं रटा हुआ तो नहीं लग रहा, यह देखिए।
